Ecotourism NZ business workshop programme

Ecotourism NZ is providing an intensive one-day session on the nuts’n’bolts of nature-based tourism. 

The objective of the session is to provide intensive professional development for nature-based tourism operators and with a focus on how to improve performance and profitability.

Attendees will hear from successful ecotourism operators about the challenges of running nature-based tourism businesses and the practical solutions they have come up with.

Operators will have the chance to network with tourism industry representatives and others like you who are passionate about nature-based tourism.

Ecotourism NZ Business Workshop includes:

  • Two intensive two-hour business training sessions
  • Case studies, presentations and in depth discussions
  • Opportunities for networking and socialising
  • Friendly, relaxed environment
  • Stunning location and warm hospitality 

COST

$120pp
Registration includes lunch and morning and afternoon teas on the day of the workshop.

WORKSHOPS 

Workshops:  Each workshop will run for 2 hours.  Choose two workshops from the following five options:

    1. Better guiding for great visitor experiences (Robinne Weiss and Linda Burns – Interpretation Network NZ)
    2. Online & Social media (Lawrence Smith – Cabbage Tree Creative)
    3. Crisis management – Being prepared for when things go wrong (Hugh Canard, Chair ENTZ and Dave Ritchie, Head of Outdoor Recreation at Tai Poutini Polytechnic)
    4. Sustainability of your business  and the environment you work in (Geoff Button – Ecotourism Tutor, Tai Poutini Polytechnic and Ian Hooker – Lead Tutor NZ Diploma in Business, Tai Poutini Polytechnic).  

CASE STUDIES

Case study: Lessons from two decades in cycling tourism – Geoff Gabites from Adventure South

Case study: Operating a business off the main route – Richard Saunders from Okarito Nature Tours

Case study discussions will also look at what we are not doing (tourism opportunities) and what we can be doing better.
