Hi all,
what a great week I had meeting you all and learning about how things are done in that most stunning region you call home.... or at least
"the office"
This forum is a place for you all to talk about your work experiences and how they relate to your diploma studies and also any questions you would like to fire my way then go ahead. It may be preferable for you to email me directly so you choose where you think it fits best.
Please feed into this forum as much as possible and it is ok just to make a brief comment about something you learnt from a client that you may see as useful to all of us.
have fun and Ill be in touch
regards

Hi fellow student.... thought you would all be on here by now trashing out the complexities of the task in front of us. Oh well perhaps unlike me you have it all under control.
Been busy in Doubtful lately with extensive Milford Road closures but it makes the days go a bit quicker and plenty of opportunity to incorporate new found knowledge into the old interpretation.
If only I could remember what I learned that week ??????

As George Brassel said to the first bulldozer driver as he rolled off the boat at Deep Cove

" one small drop for you mate then just one tree at a time eh one tree at a time.....

Hi there,
You are now i guess fallig into the; "I am so busy that i am never going to get this done" mode which is to be xpected when you are working as well so my advice to you is to plug away bit by bit and you will get there in the end.
It is a good idea not to get too wrapped up in one point and try to keep some momentum.
There are some questions around plant origins that have no right or wrong answer and it is important for you toi find this ot and state it in your assignment. You can make some assumptions as to the origins of some species and their relatives but you may not be able to make a concrete statement. Just state what you believe is the origins of that species from your research but that there is limited information in this area and ou can not be sure.
The fact that there is not always the right information out there is a learning curve in itself. A way you can translate this into interpretation is ...."there is not much information available on this topic"
Anyway... the message is " try not to sweat the small stuff too much"
keep in touch.

regards to you all
Geoff

Bust time for all and am sure some are looking at the work and thinking S..t what have I got myself into. As Geoff has suggested...a little at a time. I have just started working through some of the work and once you pick a quiet and uninterupted time & place it is amazing how much you can achieve. About to start Mariner training week...then back into the silly season shortly after. Am sure there will be times in the evenings & days off to get this completed on time. Remember that if we can pull this off and produce the results we will be in for another good residential next year...and over time you will have a Diploma!!! Keep plugging away and try to maintain focus on it.
Cheers,
Angus

Hi all,
just to let you know that there is a good link to a Geological map at http://data.gns.cri.nz/geoatlas/index.jsp (cut and paste this address into your browser window) where you can zoom in on your area and also look at the legend (key) to the map to analyse what colour corresponds to what (this is found on the right which refers to the basement (or underlying rock) or the sedimentary and volcanic legend. Look at both to make up a picture of the geology of your area.

What new things have we all learned and how will we apply that knowledge.
Throught the course of this module, you have found out about relationships between New Zealand's plants and animals and overseas, this can go a log way to helping you understand more about the processes our special landmass has gone through. How do we now incorporate this into our interpretation to our clients?
Your comments and examples please
